Our GE Mission

To nurture our GEP pupils to be innovative and enterprising and to lead with empathy for the advancement of society and the betterment of self.

Our History

Tao Nan School is founded in 1906 by the Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan (SHHK) and became a government-aided Special Assistance Plan (SAP) primary school in 1990. The GEP was introduced in 1996 with 2 classes of 50 pupils at P4. We now have 9 GEP classes across 3 levels (P4 - P6).

Our Special Programmes

As part of the holistic development of our GEP pupils to become effectively bilingual individuals, two special programmes were introduced with the full support of SHHK.

In 2007, the Bi-cultural Elective Programme (BiCEP) was introduced to offer our GEP pupils the opportunity to deepen their awareness of and appreciation of the Chinese language and culture. In 2011, the English Language and Literary Appreciation Programme (ELLAP) was introduced to develop in our GEP pupils an appreciation for the English language, literature, culture and the arts. These programmes offer a unique learning experience for our GEP pupils.

GEP Goals
  • To develop intellectual depth and higher level thinking
  • To nurture productive creativity
  • To develop attitudes for self-directed lifelong learning
  • To enhance aspirations for individual excellence and fulfillment
  • To develop a strong social conscience and commitment to serve society and nation
  • To develop strong moral values and qualities for responsible leadership
